C has an on-campus interview, which is great. What is not so great is that the university is in a town more conservative than the one we currently live in and it's even farther away from our families. I'm thrilled that he has an interview, and I'd love for him to get the job. He'd make what we're making together and then some. But I'm not sure I can stomach three or four more years in conservative small town America.

Just remember that every conservative, small-town university has its own happy little pocket of liberalism somewhere :) It's just a matter of finding it and finding people of like minds with which to surround yourself. A few years of living there may be worth it in order to have financial peace of mind now that you've got S in the picture. Good luck to C, and I'm sure everything will work out for the best-whatever happens.
Oh dear... that's tough indeed! But a job is a job, think of it that way. And what Academama said about the little "pocket of liberalism" may as well be true.
I wish him (and your family) the best of luck!
